Research Statement

How can robots become more than just tools? If we provide them with enough of an ability to understand their environment, can they become problem-solving partners? Are they capable of extending our ability to produce valuable scientific insights by autonomously working towards the high-level goals we provide them? By combining symbolic AI with advanced machine learning techniques robots can act autonomously to work towards complex high-level goals, while remaining capable of interpreting and communicating their observations.
