Some Info I completed my B.Sc. (2008) and M.Sc. (2011) at the University of Freiburg before spending almost two years as a geochemist in Colombia, where I focused on gold and platinum exploration and environmental impact assessments. After returning to Europe, I completed my doctorate (2017) at Kiel University, specializing in the use of different oceanic tracers to study circulation and biogeochemical processes in the Arctic Ocean. As a postdoc at GEOMAR, I expanded my expertise in oceanic tracers and contributed to large initiatives such as GEOTRACES and MOSAiC. In 2020, I was awarded an international postdoctoral fellowship from the Ocean Frontier Institute and conducted research at Dalhousie University and WHOI to investigate the effects of East Greenland on nutrient bioavailability in the North Atlantic. I currently lead the Marie Curie project "ICEotopes", which focuses on the interplay of physical and biogeochemical processes at the sea ice-ocean interface.

Education

  • 2017: Doctorate in Isotope Geochemistry (Summa cum laude, Petersen Award for excellent doctoral research), Kiel University & GEOMAR, Germany
  • 2011: M.Sc. in Geology (German GPA 1.2, Alumni Prize for excellent M.Sc. degree), University of Freiburg, Germany
  • 2008: B.Sc. in Geosciences (German GPA 1.9), University of Freiburg, Germany

Research Statement

My research focuses on trace elements in the high latitudes, using their isotopic composition in seawater, marine sediments, sea ice, and snow to investigate ocean circulation and trace element fluxes. I am particularly interested in sea ice as an important biogeochemical interface between the atmosphere and the surface ocean, and between coastal areas and the open ocean. I also study the effects of melting ice sheets and the pathways and fate of meltwater and its constituents in polar regions.
