Research Statement
My lab aims to understand the impact and feedback of marine microbial processes on global carbon and biogeochemical cycles. We develop and utilize mechanistic biogeochemical models of varying complexity, in conjunction with observational data analysis, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), and other data-driven modeling approaches. Our current research focuses on understanding how microorganisms influence the ocean’s biological pump, examining how microbial-biogeochemical feedbacks affect air-sea carbon fluxes, developing multi-scale models that integrate microbial metabolism with biogeochemical processes, and evaluating the potential benefits and risks of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE).
