Research Statement

We study the processes that determine the fluctuations and distribution of coastal marine bottom organisms such as barnacles, corals, and lobsters, with emphasis on how variability in circulation, temperature, and seafloor bathymetry influences the transport and aggregation of organisms, from small larvae to large marine animals, and from hourly to interannual scales. This knowledge is necessary for comprehending organismal response and population fluctuations and distribution of marine organisms, including response to climate change, and for understanding which coastal regions should be protected from anthropogenic disturbances such as climate change and fishing

Research Interests

Benthic ecology and nearshore oceanography. Hydrodynamic forcing on shallow water benthic communities.
• Larval transport, larval dispersal and population connectivity.
• Larval behavior as related to larval transport.
• Settlement and recruitment.
• Population ecology.
Large-scale ecology of shallow and deep-sea benthic communities.
