Research Statement

As a member of the Upper Ocean Processes Group at WHOI, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in many research cruises, been a part of development of international ocean data standards, and helped create a real time data processing system for open ocean surface buoys. As a member of the OceanSITES Data Management Team, I’ve been privileged to be chief editor of the Data Format Reference Manual, the first document of its kind to be approved by the Ocean Best Practices System of the IOC. OceanSITES has made great strides in promoting FAIR data practices, encouraging and facilitating the re-use of our open ocean long time-series data.

Research Interests

Developing information systems for the Upper Ocean Processes group’s Ocean Reference Stations, specializing in telemetry, quality assurance processes, and aggregation of near-real time data; web-based data distribution; community standards development; and interoperable solutions for ocean observing systems.
