Education
- Masters of Oceanography (MOO) from the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island
- Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from the University of Rhode Island
Sara Shapiro is a research assistant for the Alexander and the Tepolt Labs at WHOI. Past research experiences include performing morphological and genetic analysis on deep-sea coral samples from the Chukchi Sea, microscopy analysis of phytoplankton samples from the North Atlantic, biodiversity studies of both the benthic ecology of Narragansett Bay and the diversity of the Sargassum Seaweed ecosystem, and studying crab diversity in the intertidal zone of the North Atlantic coast.
Sara is currently working on multiple molecular and culturing experiments in the Alexander Lab and various molecular experiments in the Tepolt Lab. Her current work focuses on population genomics, molecular biodiversity assessments, and transcriptomic studies.
