Research Statement

I am a biological oceanographer who focuses on protistan plankton physiology and ecology, especially mixoplankton (photoautotrophy + phagotrophy). The types of mixoplankton are diverse, ranging from those primarily photoautotrophic to those primarily heterotrophic. I am broadly interested in physiology of the constitutive mixoplankton (CM), protist plankton with an inherent capacity to photosynthesize and can also exhibit phagotrophy, but my primary interest lies in the trophic transfer from the prey, mixoplankton to higher trophic levels.
